The Wins

Profiling our biggest wins is always a highlight as it provides an opportunity to recognize top deal-making efforts by our colleagues and winning strategies. To end 2019 on a sales high, this quarter we are proud to showcase three major teaming success stories!

ICON Clinical Research

ICON plc is a global provider of outsourced development services to the pharmaceutical, biotechnology and medical device industries. Post our engagement with the customer’s Philadelphia team, the client was seeking a service provider specialized in hybrid WAN and UCC. Echoing similar concerns we have experienced from other customers, ICON was initially unsure of using a global provider like CenturyLink as they required strong regional support and previously endured unfavorable experiences with other US-based vendors.

Solution:

Preetam Bose, Account Director – MNC, APAC who is based in Singapore held consultations with the ICON Infrastructure lead in India and seeded the idea of Data Center in the region to complement the requirements for their Global WAN , followed by a meeting with Sr Director Infrastructure , who travelled from Dublin to Singapore with his team for deep insight into CenturyLink capabilities. This was followed up with additional conference calls while key decision-makers were identified in India, Philadelphia and Dublin. Together with ecosystem team members, CenturyLink was able to showcase the value of a global and regional model.

Success factors:

These interactions resulted in winning the first APAC colocation resell using Cyxtera together with wave and internet services, paving the way for the global WAN RFP which will be released in Q1 2020 and Wave Circuits between North America and Dublin. Winning over Equinix and Singtel, this teaming win case contributed APAC MRR (phase 1) $17,000 to MNC sales wins.

Thanks to the winning team comprising of Ed Collins (North America Sales – new AD Brian Brenfleck), Daniel Fields (CTL-Cyxtera Colo ), Calvin Deininger (Lead SE), Joseph Kush (North America SD), Roger Wong (SD APAC) and APAC Ecosystem Teams.

FARO Technologies

Our client is a leading provider of 3D measurement, imaging and realization technology for several vertical industries including construction and public safety forensics. Their requirement was for a service provider that specialized in hybrid WAN solutions, ultimately towards an SD-WAN deployment. With global headquarters in Florida, the customer was concerned that a global vendor would not have capabilities to support regional requirements, particularly in Asia Pacific.

Solution:

After 8 months of initial discussion, North America Account team introduced Preetam Bose, Account Director – MNC, APAC who is based in Singapore to key decision-maker based in Singapore to cover and sell the required solutions, resulting in building a good working relationship with Faro APAC Team to win our very first SD-WAN deal in APAC! Together with ecosystem team members, CenturyLink was able to showcase the value of a global and regional model.

Success factors:

Winning the initial deal for implementation across eight FARO’s sites in APAC (five in China, one each in India, Japan and Singapore) paved the way for the first SD-WAN POC for over 17 sites in the region! The Phase 1 APAC MRR is $22,000.

Thanks to the winning team comprising of Cindy Sosa (North America AD), Robert Malone (North America SD), Aaron Wittmer (Lead SE), Rich Gould (Sr Lead Architect SAT) and APAC Ecosystem Team.

Shearwater Health

Hospitals and healthcare providers in many countries are challenged with ongoing nursing and clinical staff shortages. Shearwater Health is a US-based company that helps overcome this challenge by bringing international nurses to the US, primarily from the Philippines, helping providers sustain excellent patient care. Shearwater uses clinically-certified staff all over the world to meet the needs of healthcare companies in the U.S. They have over 2,000 clinicians in facilities in the Philippines that operate in remote, dedicated teams for their clients. By outsourcing to Shearwater for their clinical and administrative needs, their clients can free up their current clinical staff to perform the highest priority tasks.

Solution:

With this unique advantage in the healthcare marketplace, there is a huge reliance on redundant, diverse and secure connectivity to the Philippines, where the APAC regional CIO and IT team are based. A vast timezone made this project difficult to fulfill from our US site – the time difference between CenturyLink HQ and the Philippines is 14 hours! To provide timely support, Shantini Rajindrin (AD) provided direct in-region business support to the customer by working closely with Jake Fitzgerald (Account Director), conducting a three-day workshop along with Adrian Lau (SE), who joined her from the Hong Kong office. Together, they provided onsite and offsite support and clarity to the customer’s inquiries.

Success factors:

Shantini successfully managed to upsell ANS gateway and Voice complete in the US following the customer’s satisfaction with the engagement. The APAC team was able to assist in the design and share CTL’s full portfolio to the team in Philippines. A fantastic result obtained within an outstanding timeframe.

Special thanks to Jake Fitzgerald (AD), Zachary Keiper (Director), Pete Roberts (Network SE), Chris Geissler (Security Overlay) and APAC team’s support on this win.

Marketing Activities

We’ve had some great representation for CenturyLink at key events in the region.

WAN Summit, Singapore

Held in November 2010, this industry event focused on the challenges faced by IT infrastructure manager operation global and regional corporate networks. Chris Rezentes, Director of Product Management (Network) represented CenturyLink Asia Pacific on a speaker panel for “Experiences with SD-WAN – ‘The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly.” Discussion topics covered how SD-WAN impacts overall WAN spending and what virtual network functions are most often deployed with SD-WAN. Chris joined other panel leaders from customers including Barclays and Epsilon. A CenturyLink table-top booth was also displayed at the event to create awareness around our SD-WAN capabilities. We’ve now acquired six net new contacts from MNC accounts: Novartis, Informa, Agilent Technologies, Evonik Industries, Agility Logistics Services and Hilti Asia. Stay tuned for updates as we follow these leads!

Network Virtualization & SDN Asia, Singapore

Another successful event with Chris taking the stage once more for a presentation and panel discussion. This was an important event for networking and building thought-leadership in the region, drawing over 7,000 attendees of which 85% were decision-makers and influencers. Chris highlighted our SD-WAN capabilities and talked about how an adaptive network is the new epicenter of digital workloads. We also used this opportunity to share our key investment objectives in the region with an analyst from Ovum.
